Do the right thing
“So let us not grow weary in doing what is right, for we will reap at harvest time, if we do not give up.” Galatians 6:9
Feeling tired? Over-burdened? Weary? Like anyone, I have my days of weariness too, when I feel worn out, maybe not “used up,” but certainly worn out. Life can drain you, that’s for sure. And though just our daily toil can wear us out, even when we work for God’s Kingdom it can be draining. It’s hard, sometimes, to do the right thing, for there is often a cost … in friendships, in position and status, in financial means. As we’ve been studying in James, Christ our King demands obedience, and James knows that if we are not working for the Lord then our faith is meaningless, for our love for Jesus must flow into this world. And sometimes, all we are able to do is plant seeds of God’s love and grace and healing, waiting patiently for the harvest. Don’t give up, and when you start to feel weary in doing the right thing, take heart and feel the love and grace of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Blessings and Peace,
For the month of October, we will be studying Paul’s letter to the Philippians. In these uncertain times, with the divisive nature of politics in our nation, amidst mistrust and struggle, it is my hope that we will look to Paul’s words finding comfort and purpose, to even find joy and peace again. If you look at Paul’s life, he suffered greatly. He was beaten and imprisoned, and yet, he kept going, doing the work of the Gospel, spreading the love of Christ. And despite writing this letter from prison, his joy is exuberant, and his hope genuine, all because of his faith and the life he found in Jesus Christ.
Each Sunday we will look at a short passage from each chapter. Philippians is only four chapters long, and I encourage you to read all of it in one sitting. Then, go back, and look again at each passage.
October 4, 2020: Philippians 1:21-30, “A Life Worthy”
October 11, 2020: Philippians 2:1-13, “The Same Mind as Christ”
October 18, 2020: Philippians 3:4b-14, “Because Faith is Everything”
October 25, 2020: Philippians 4:1-9, “Joy, Prayer, and Peace”
For October 4, 2020, we will look at Philippians 1:21-30, “A Life Worthy”. Though we face setbacks, struggles, and pain, we must persevere to life a life worthy of the Gospel, to live with purpose in the Kingdom of God.
